"Alice's Corner is officially my favorite restaurant in Aurora (and maybe anywhere).
I'm from New York, here for work from July through October, and one afternoon I just didn't want to cook. I'd heard about a Bolivian spot nearby, so I decided to give it a try. Best decision ever.
From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed by the owner, Miss Alicia, who felt instantly like family. I told her it was my first time and asked what she recommended. Without hesitation, she pointed to the beef stew. Honestly, I never would have thought to order beef stew -- especially in the middle of summer -- but she smiled and said, "It's the best thing on the menu." So I trusted her.
When the stew came, I took one bite and it felt like a hug. The tender beef, potatoes, carrots, rice, and fresh cilantro -- absolutely perfect. The flavors were rich and comforting, like being at my grandmother's house after a tough week. I truly didn't expect food to feel so healing, but it did.
I also tried a spinach & cheese empanada that same day and wow... one of the best I've ever had. Yummy crust, flavorful filling, everything made with love. I ended up eating the whole thing right there even though I planned to save it.
That first week, I went back three more times. Since then, I've been a regular -- at least once or twice a week. I've celebrated my birthday there, tried different dishes, and every single time, the food is incredible and the atmosphere warm. Alicia and Oscar make you feel like family, and you can tell they pour their hearts into everything.
If you're in Aurora -- or honestly anywhere in Chicagoland -- do yourself a favor and go to Alice's Corner. You'll get more than a meal here. You'll get food that feels like love."
